My Preferred Project

Throughout the semester, I found two projects most intrigued me. And they were quite different from each other! First, I enjoyed writing the press release. It was factual, informative and interesting to learn about the format and necessary content in a press release. I wouldn’t mind delving deeper into the world of press release writing for businesses.

The second project I enjoyed the most was writing a feature article. While I don’t particularly enjoy interviewing, I like the freedom a feature article allows. The tone of a feature article flows more easily and feels a little informal compared to the news articles. Feature articles have more interest to them. I like the human interest element to the feature article as well. Writing feature articles could be an interesting career path. It might be more difficult to break into the world of feature writing and actually getting published and paid for it. I’m aware of many websites to upload a feature article for free, but getting a reputable company to pay for your features seems harder.

As far as a career, I think I’d prefer to start a writing career by writing press releases. Feature article writing can be done on the side for a while. I think more businesses need writers who can create an effective press release or news article than a feature article.
