“We seek after these things”
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
This statement should be the motto for all journalism and content creation. Following these guidelines will ensure our writing is ethical, informative, and truthful. When I sit down to write an article, I have a responsibility to be honest and deliver content that doesn’t harm. This should apply to all areas of communication. As a writer, I want my readers to trust me. I want my audience to know they are getting honest information. I especially would like to deliver information that is uplifting and does “good to all men”!
Sometimes, it’s difficult to find virtuous or praiseworthy content on social media or the news. I’ve learned that there is a science to finding positive material online. Algorithms are created to deliver the kind of content we seek. If negative content pops up, the last thing to do is spend time reading it! Move along, delete, and do not revisit negative content. However, when I spend time reading and listening to uplifting messages, more happy and positive content appears on my social media feeds. It is a testament to the fact that you will get what you seek! What we seek for should be of the utmost importance! Negative content easily finds you, even when you aren’t looking for it. An active effort is necessary to “seek” for virtuous things. “Seeking” implies we are actively searching it out. As I write and create various types of content, I have a responsibility to seek accurate, reliable sources and references. When I do, I can be confident that my content is accurately portrayed and reliable. Ultimately, my goal is to be the kind of writer that other writers (and readers) look to for “honest, true, virtuous, and praiseworthy” material.
