Wedding Bells

Wow. Today’s the day. My oldest child is getting married. I gain a daughter-in-law today. These two lovebirds have been dating for 7 years! My son finally decided it was time to pull the trigger and pop the question. I’m glad it’s finally happening!

27 years ago, it was my wedding. I was married at the end of June to my sweetheart. My husband and I had known each other for 7 years before we got married. We were friends through high school, even though we never went to the same school. He was best friends with my older brother, so I was the “little sister”. I remember thinking he was the kind of person I would want to marry. I measured all my boyfriends against him and the kind of person he is. When college came around, we took the scary leap to date each other. It felt scary since we had been such good friends and that was changing. Our friendship would either turn into love or we’d end up losing a friend. It felt risky.

Thankfully, our relationship felt like a smooth transition from friendship to marriage. I truly married my best friend. He’s still my best friend. He's the one I enjoy spending the most time with, laughing with, going to movies with, and just hanging out at home. Making memories together is my favorite thing to do.

As we watch our son get married today, I can’t help but look back on the day I got married and our journey to forever. I’m so excited for my son to begin his life with his sweetheart. They’re a good balance for each other. Somehow, his extroverted personality is balanced with his new wife’s introverted personality. They complement each other.

Today, we make another family memory. These are my favorite kind of days.
